Program Locations
Lethbridge School Division is piloting two KinderCare Programs at Nicholas Sheran and Senator Buchanan for the 2025/2026 school year.
Program Times
Children attend KinderCare during regular school hours when they are not in their Kindergarten class, including on Fridays. This provides full-day programming Monday through Thursday, plus Friday mornings (from the first to the last bell each day). Children enrolled in KinderCare will attend Kindergarten on their scheduled Fridays and KinderCare on the other Fridays when school is in operation. Children will eat lunch in the KinderCare classroom.
KinderCare follows the same yearly calendar as your child's Kindergarten class. KinderCare does not operate on kindergarten/elementary parent teacher interview days, school holidays, or scheduled professional learning days.
What programming is provided in KinderCare?
Early Learning staff will engage children in purposeful play-based activities designed to encourage exploration, foster creativity, problem solving skills and language expression to support future learning and well-being.
Transportation
Children enrolled in KinderCare who meet eligibility and are registered for school bus transportation at Senator Buchanan and Nicholas Sheran can access the school bus to and from school Monday to Friday.
Fees
The cost for KinderCare is $275 per month, plus a $40 non-refundable registration fee once placement is confirmed.
Fees support the staff costs associated with running this optional program. Alberta Education provides funding for a half-time Kindergarten program only.
- Fees will be paid through SchoolCashOnline on the first of each month.
- Fees will not be reimbursed due to illness, personal holidays, etc.
- Fees will only be reimbursed if the program has been closed by Lethbridge School Division.
- This program does not qualify for the childcare subsidy.
To withdraw a child from KinderCare, families must provide written notice to the registered school 14 days prior to their last day.
Staff
Each KinderCare Program is led by a program leader and may also include an educational assistant, depending on enrollment numbers.
